VPIRG members have been pushing for an equitable, substantial Transportation and Climate Initiative Program (TCI-P) for several years. We believe a well-designed program can boost our economy, reduce climate emission, and address inequities in our transportation systems.
In December 2020, a bipartisan group of governors and mayors from Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and the District of Columbia announced that they would be the first jurisdictions to join the program, though Vermont governor Phil Scott declined to do so at the time.
Unfortunately, last week the governors of Massachusetts and Connecticut announced their withdrawal from TCI after a lack of sign-ons from other states. VPIRG and other organizations have pushed hard for Vermont to sign on to the TCI-P: read our full statement on this development below.
