Make a Gift of Stock
The Vermont Public Interest Research and Education Fund (VPIREF) encourages gifts of stock and other securities that may provide you favorable tax benefits. By donating appreciated stock, you can make a gift that’s 20% more valuable than if you’d sold the stock and donated after-tax earnings, avoid paying capital gains tax, and receive an income tax deduction on the full value of the gift up to the overall amount allowed by the IRS.
You will need to notify your broker in writing that you are making a charitable gift to VPIREF. To transfer stock directly to VPIREF’s account, your broker will need the following information about VPIREF’s brokerage firm:
Edward Jones
1 Conti Circle Suite 2, Barre VT 05641
DTC Number: 0057
Account Number: 661-16129-1-9
VPIREF Federal EIN # 51-016-3801
It is important to notify VPIREF of your stock gift, as your name may not be included in the transfer. Kindly provide a description of the securities to be donated and the number of shares.
Please contact Ben Hudson with this information at bhudson@vpirg.org or by mail at:
VPIREF
Attn: Ben Hudson
141 Main St, Ste. 6
Montpelier, VT 05602
Once we receive notification of the successful transfer of your stock gift, we will send an acknowledgement of the gift for your tax purposes.
Thank you for your generous support!
Please note: when making charitable decisions we encourage you to discuss your options with your financial advisor.
